Durapipe PVC-U, has been installed as part of a £60,000 refurbishment project at Sherborne Springs Water Treatment Works owned by Wessex Water and based in Midsomer Norton, Somerset.
The project involved upgrading and replacing chemical dosing lines at the Water Treatment Works. Work included installing two new PACL Poly Aluminium Chloride (Coagulant) tanks and a tanker fill and discharge pipework system. The refurbishment of the site will help maintain the quality of water in the area.
Contractors Bridges Electrical, were tasked with installing a pipework system to carry corrosive chemicals including Orthophosphoric Acid and Polyaluminium Chloride, which if leaked are extremely hazardous and can destroy the enviroment.
Bath contractor, Bridges Electrical opted to install Durapipe PVC-U, due to its chemical resistance properties and ease of installation. Its corrosion resistance ensures the pipework system operates effectively over the lifetime of a system, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
Marc Chalk, project manager at Bridges Electrical, said: “We chose to install Durapipe PVC-U because it has Drinking Water Inspectorate(DWI) approval. It has been rigorously tested and the piping is durable and strong enough to withstand up to 16bar of water and waste water applications. The pipework is strong enough to transport different corrosive chemicals including PACL – Poly Aluminium Chloride (Coagulant).”
PVC-U allows the safe transportation of many acids, alkalis and chemical concentrates without fear of corrosion and environmental pollution.
Durapipe PVC-U is a solvent welded, fully matched pipework system incorporating pipe, fittings and valves that is available in both imperial and metric sizes. PVC-U is lightweight and is extremely easy to install which can save both time and money on any given project when compared to other, more traditional pipework materials. Furthermore, Durapipe PVC-U is fully WRAS approved and it also meets the requirements of other internationally recognised standards and approvals.
