A selection of plastic pipework has been supplied to cater for the specialist drainage requirements within a new build academy for Telford and Wrekin Council.
Abraham Darby Academy is a secondary academy and sixth-form for children from 11-18 years. The Academy is the last of a three-phase build, which included a primary school and leisure centre.
Mechanical and engineering consultants Dodd Group specified both Friaphon and Vulcathene pipework, for use in the multi-million pound project. Its state of the art science laboratory will use Friaphon for waste water drainage and Vulcathene for chemical drainage.
Available in sizes from 38mm – 152mm, Vulcathene, a purpose-designed chemical resistant pipework system was installed for the chemical drainage requirements of the new laboratory. The market leading piping system was chosen for its proven track record for chemical drainage, as it is the only product that has passed the test of time in terms of safely conveying chemical waste.
Friaphon was specified in various sizes due to its acoustic properties, the purpose designed sound attenuated drainage system has a proven track record of delivering outstanding noise reduction results. Minimising noise from drainage applications is key to creating a comfortable and stimulating learning environment, so this was an important factor when considering products. It is also a lower installed cost alternative to cast iron as it does not need to be lagged, and combining this with its push fit assembly, makes the installation process quicker and easier.
