Plastic pipework from Durapipe UK has been specified for the refurbishment of Lakeside International Hotel, part of Lakeside Country Club - one of Britain’s premier entertainment centres and home to the Lakeside World Professional Darts Championships.
As part of the hotel refit to modernise all the facilities, galvanised steel pipes were replaced with Friatherm and Durapipe SuperFLO pipework systems, to cater for the domestic water requirements at the 98 bedroom hotel in Surrey.
Friatherm in sizes 25mm – 90mm was specified to transport water from the main boiler and distribute throughout the hotel for all of the hot water services. Durapipe SuperFLO was also installed in sizes 25mm – 63mm to carry chilled water from the water tank in the basement to cater for the cold water services.
Specified due to its high performance properties, Friatherm is both limescale and corrosion resistant, offering a 50 year design life. The speed of installation and the fact that no power source or ‘hot works’ are needed means that Friatherm offers significant benefits when compared with copper and steel alternatives.
SuperFLO was the perfect choice for the hotel as its tough and durable properties and wide temperature capabilities, make it the ideal system to carry low temperature fluids.
Commenting on the installation, Terry Akehurst at Premier Air Conditioning explains: “The original steel pipework was susceptible to corrosion so leaving it in place would have led to costly maintenance work. It was more cost effective to replace the steel pipework now to avoid the costs and disruption that inevitable regular maintenance would cause in the future. “Both systems also helped us make significant cost savings during the installation stage; the lightweight nature of the plastic pipework made it easy to handle on site and coupled with its simple jointing technique it reduced labour time and costs considerably for us.”
