Durapipe Air-line Xtra, our purpose designed pipework system for compressed air distribution, has been chosen by National Semiconductor to replace an aging pipework system at their manufacturing facility in Greenock, Scotland.
National Semiconductor is a leading supplier of power management chips, producing cutting edge technology and products which are employed in a range of electronic systems, from Mars landing crafts to mobile phones. Durapipe Air-line Xtra was specified for a pneumatics system which delivers clean compressed air in the production of silicon chips and microelectronics.
Installers Sematek UK specified 400metres of pipework to replace the original system, which was beginning to deteriorate. Specifically designed for the conveyance of compressed air and pneumatics systems, Durapipe Air-line Xtra is non corrodible, and has solvent welded non-leak joints which reduce the need for maintenance and running costs.
Des McNally, Manufacturing Manager, Sematek UK, said: “National Semiconductor need a product that is reliable, long lasting and low maintenance, Durapipe Air-line Xtra is a lightweight, non-corrodible, compressed air distribution system with a 30 year design life. Using Durapipe products also makes our jobs as installers much easier. The lightweight pipes are easier and less hazardous to move compared to steel. The jointing process, using cold solvent welding, doesn’t require any specialist equipment and really simplifies installation. The production of cutting edge technology needs equipment of excellent quality, so National Semiconductor and Durapipe are a perfect match.”
Durapipe Air-line Xtra is manufactured from a special blend of ABS with increased levels of chemical resistance and its smooth bore offers a highly efficient system. Air passing through the pipes encounters less friction, so there are lower drops in pressure and higher flow rates. Most importantly, for compressed air systems, Durapipe Air-line Xtra keeps air clean right up to the point of use.
