Durapipe SuperFLO for chilled water pipework system
17/12/2009
Durapipe SuperFLO pipework has been chosen as the ideal pipework system for the replacement of the chiller system within a Central London building which currently houses the Department of Health.

The extensive development was designed and contract administrated by Consultants Zisman Bowyer & Partners and project managed by Briggs and Forrester and involved major mechanical and electrical works in order to remove and replace the existing six chiller systems, as well as the installation of a new plant room. The old chiller system was replaced by two new packaged chillers with air cooled condensers to provide chilled air conditioning throughout the building.
Briggs and Forrester selected Durapipe SuperFLO pipework from the options laid out in the Zisman Bowyer & Partners Specification, in sizes ranging from 100mm up to 315mm to carry the chilled water from the newly installed chillers, in and around the new plant room and then throughout the rest of the building. The lightweight and durable pipework system was the ideal choice for the contractor as it remains resilient even at temperatures as low as -40ºC, ensuring the new system stays cool.
Chris Carter, Contract Manager at Briggs and Forrester commented: “The replacement of the chiller system called for a pipework system that was reliable and durable even at low temperatures. The Durapipe SuperFLO system has proved itself to match these criteria. The simple solvent weld jointing technique ensured a tremendously efficient installation process and was extremely lightweight and easy to handle on site providing cost savings across the installation process”.
Durapipe SuperFLO is an ideal pipework system for transporting chilled and boosted cold water applications in modern buildings; it combines toughness and corrosion resistance through its smooth inner-bore to offer a 50 year design life.
