Installer is converted by the benefits of plastics
02/11/2009
As part of an energy saving project, Durapipe SuperFLO pipework has been installed by Cavendish Engineers within the Astrium EADS satellite production site in Stevenage.

Astrium, a global leader in aerospace and defence is dedicated to the development, promotion and delivery of satellite services, concentrating on secure communications and navigation.
To improve energy efficiency, the plastic pipework system has been installed in preference to steel. Cavendish specified SuperFLO in sizes up to 225mm for the centralised 2MW chilled water cooling system. The newly installed pipework contributes to the low carbon strategy and will be used to transport chilled water for the air conditioning system to cool offices, and clean rooms.
Cavendish required a lightweight pipework system to fit on the roof of the facility and SuperFLO provided the ideal solution; it is one sixth the weight of steel and easier to both transport and install in restricted spaces. Cavendish has traditionally opted for conventional materials but has now been convinced by the performance and benefits of plastic as a viable alternative to steel for their pipework requirements. SuperFLO provides all of the properties required for the job; the product is lightweight, limescale resistant, easy to install and offers a more cost effective solution than steel & copper alternatives.
