Plastic pipework helps to combat metal thefts

A development of retirement apartments in the North East has utilised a range of Durapipe SuperFLO plastic pipework in an attempt to combat the ongoing issue of metal thefts on-site.

During construction of The Avenue in Eaglescliffe, Durham, the site suffered from multiple thefts of copper for re-sale. As a result, contractors Acorn Plumbing and Heating were looking for alternative materials that would reduce the risk and turned to Durapipe UK.

The SuperFLO pipework system in sizes up to 3” was installed to distribute the cold water from the water mains to each of the 48 retirement apartments within the block.

In addition to it reducing thefts on-site, Durapipe SuperFLO was also easy to install, offering significant cost savings, as Neil Rickaby from Acorn Plumbing and Heating explains: “We had experienced a lot of trouble with copper being stolen from this site, so needed to look at alternatives. With plastic being the obvious choice, we needed a cost effective product, which is exactly what SuperFLO provided.

“The lightweight material and solvent cement jointing technique of SuperFLO makes it so easy to work with, it made the installation process much simpler and quicker, making us significant cost savings.”
