Durapipe ABS for Dubai Metro

We are delighted to have played our part in the world famous $7.6 billion Dubai Metro, the world’s longest driverless metro, by supplying pipework for use in its train washing facilities.



With the first phase now open, the Dubai Metro is expected to carry approximately 1.2 million passengers on an average day and 355 million passengers a year once it is in full operation by 2020.

The local conditions of heat and dust mean that a reliable and efficient train washing facility is required for the 75m long driverless, fully automated trains. As a result, train washing facilities have been installed at three of the metro depots in Dubai, with Durapipe ABS pipework specified to transport both the clean water and a diluted detergent used for the washing process.



Each washing facility provides a unique washing action, with brushes mounted on hydraulically activated swing arms ensuring efficient cleaning of up to 200 carriages per hour. Durapipe ABS pipework has been installed to supply clean water to the facility; it is important the water remains clean and contaminant free and Durapipe ABS is the ideal solution as it is completely limescale resistant, ensuring the water will remain clean for the lifetime of the product.

The corrosion resistant properties of Durapipe ABS also aided its specification to transport the water & detergent mixture to the washer, enabling the diluted detergent to be safely transported without corroding the pipework, significantly reducing maintenance and replacement costs over the lifetime of the system.
